Serena & Lily Rope Lamp Dupe

Hello there! Today I have a gorgeous Serena & Lily Rope Lamp Dupe for you. This is probably one of my most favorite dupes to date. It’s so simple yet makes a big statement. This was also a subscriber favorite as I received many recreation images through instagram which I enjoy seeing so much.

I love mood lighting and having lamps in your home is an easy way to achieve this. However, over time lamps have gotten more and more expensive (just like everything else). Which is why I love checking them out whenever I go into thrift stores. There are always great finds.

I would like to say though that I don’t just settle for any lamp. The lamps have to be a nice larger size and they should also have a classic design. The more “trendy” they are the less they will stand the test of time.

Usually I don’t find lamps with good (and clean) lampshades so I often just get the base. If I do find a good lampshade I do purchase them thrifted whenever I can.

The inspiration for this lamp is the Marina lamp from Serena & Lily. It’s stunning but at $598.00 it gets a “no” from me. That’s literally a car payment so I just could never fathom spending that much for a lamp.

Sometimes I wonder how these companies stay in business but that’s a conversation for another day.

During one of my trips to Goodwill, I found the following lamp for $8.99. At the time I purchased it I had no idea what I was going to do with it, so I had it on hand for a bit. However, this was the perfect candidate for this dupe when I finally came across the Marina lamp.

The entire process for this lamp’s transformation is really quite simple.

The rope ribbon I used is from Hobby Lobby and it already came braided. It currently comes in 4 colors. I would suggest to buy these when they are 50% off to get the best deal. I used 3 spools of rope for this lamp.

The first thing I did was spray paint the lamp white. This may seem unnecessary, but it’s one of those details that brings this project to the next level. I didn’t want any blue to peek through any of the rope pieces and doing this will prevent this.

Next, when starting on the rope you want to start from the bottom back area right next to the cord. Using hot glue begin to glue the rope to the base.

Starting from the back will prevent the seam to be in the front and starting at the bottom helps keep the lines straight.

When coming back around make sure the next line up is as tight as possible to the first one and continue to work your way around the lamp.

Make sure to work in small steps, adding hot glue as you go.

When you reach the end of your first spool make sure the seam is on the back of the lamp lining up with the original seam when you started. If you find that the end of the rope ends in a different location, cut it off at the back even if you lose out on a little bit of rope.

This will ensure that the seams are only on the back of the lamp and the from will look like a continuous piece of rope.

Continue the process with your next spools. Make sure that your rope is going the same direction as the original (they aren’t always spun in the same direction).

When you get to the top, add hot glue to the end of the rope.

And then tuck that end and tuck it into itself at the top of the lamp this way you don’t see the unfinished end.

For the lamp shade, I just swapped one that I had on another lamp already. And that was it! Here is how the lamp turned out.

As you can see the rows of rope are straight and there are no seams!

I love how much texture this lamp has. And as you can see, there is no blue peeking through from underneath.

I keep this lamp away from anything that can get it dirty. The only thing that can accumulate is dust, but the smaller attachments on a vacuum get them really easily so it has always remained this light and clean.

It adds a coastal feel as well without being too “theme-y” which can often make things look cheesy when it comes to coastal decor.

Here is a side-by-side of both lamps and how much I saved by recreating the look myself!
